One of the easiest tips I like to give out for styling at home is to choose a focal point. This is commonly an artwork/print/wall hanging or a rug but could also be the largest piece of furniture in a room, such as the lounge/sofa. Typically I choose the object with the most amount of colour as this colour palette then informs the rest of the items for the room. Pull out one or more colours from your artwork or rug and use shades or tones of this colour along with complementary shades. Just don’t go overboard. Make sure you have some neutral elements in the mix!
With this design I have repeated the artwork colours in the rug selected. This could have ended up one very busy mess of a room but because all the other elements are quite muted and neutral the dual focal points are complementing each other rather than competing. .
