A coastal bedroom for a cool, classy tween. Honestly, today’s kids are so sophisticated by the time they reach ten, aren't they? When I was 11 I was riding my purple bicycle with handlebar streamers and spokey-dokes through paddocks and down to the local lolly shop to stock up on candy bracelets. You could usually find me making Milos with an 80:20 Milo to milk ratio, eating Tomato Sauce Samboys and watching Agro’s Cartoon Connection as long as I wasn’t duct-taped to the power pole out the front of our house by my older brother or swinging by my knees in our backyard mango tree. Tween wasn’t even a word because we didn’t need it. We were kids through and through until at least fourteen. These days kids know about style and aesthetics, dressing like they’re always ready for a photoshoot, and definitely know what they DO and DON'T like. For this laidback look we chose Hawaiian inspired wallpaper and print from Boho Art & Styling and used lots of beautiful rattan and cane to give that cool, vintage surfer vibe that would grow with this coastal girl well into her late teens. This was a massive hit with this sophisticated tweeny!

Another beautiful bedroom transformation for a lovely client who wanted to move away from her dark, dreary furniture and room feel to a crisp, calm and collected space ready to welcome her third baby. She also had a dire need for storage so we created a custom storage/entertainment wall (retaining the television to entertain her existing small people was a must). We also used a calming palette of pale blues and pinks to warm the abundant white storage options so it the room felt relaxing rather than clinical. There was so much storage in this one I couldn’t fit it all into our ‘Style Snapshot’ but I’m super happy that we fully satisfied the brief and helped this Mama find her Sisu! Brief: Calming, light coloured room with lots of storage. Pain Points: Existing furniture was too dark (big, black cabinets) and there wasn't enough storage. Solution: Built in, modular, wall-mounted storage with space to retain the existing television in the same spot. A calming palette of pale blues and pinks and natural timber accents to create warmth and avoid a clinical feeling from the large white storage wall. We were asked to style speakers area at the Gold Coast Small Business Expo. They wanted something a bit more interesting that previous, simple (boring) backdrops they had used. We created two dried foliage walls which came together to form one big backdrop for the presenting experts, business owners and politicians to speak in front of. The rug we used tied in perfectly with the colours of our walls to create a stunning, one of a kind setup. We had so many great comments and wonderful exposure on this one which secured us a green wall backdrop gig at one of the Gold Coast shopping centres! Following on from the Small Business Expo post, this is the wall we built for our stand which we ended up replicating in the shopping centre. This was all made with fresh foliage and secured with a hundred and one zip ties! Don't you just love a time-lapse?? This was such a fun, styled photoshoot in New Farm Park for multiple local models and brands such as 'Esah & Co', 'Essejay Handbags' and 'Your Luxury Wardrobe'. The brief was 'Luxe Boho Picnic' and I'm sure you'll agree we nailed it (down to the pink mocktails and platter boards)! This entire setup comes from our inventory of stock. Love working with fellow small businesses and seeing our vision come to life! Another tablescape we created for Gathar. Again, found foliage (olive tree branches from my Aunt's garden) is the. star, along with produce bought from the local market. To create a rustic look I used a linen style table runner with lengths of brown craft paper running across the table as placemats. The olive branches were laid along the length of the table as a natural centrepiece with the produce pieces (pears, figs, cheese, bread and cured sausage) presented in bowls and on wooden. platters. The addition of a beautiful brass candelabra, a french, bohemian bottle of wine and metal pitcher filled with dried lavender added to the provincial style. The look was. finished off with simple place setting pieces created from a sprig of rosemary and a quill of cinnamon, tied with twine. Bon Appetit! We created a Tropical Tablescape Tutorial for Gathar. This one was super easy, using fresh produce from the market and palm fronds from my garden. The process is pretty easy to follow via the images below but step-by-step it went like this... Step 1: Gather your tropical goods! I used pineapples and dragon fruit (from the grocer) as well as palm leaves and bird of paradise flowers (from my garden). You could use limes, coconuts, bananas, whatever you like really, as long as it is vaguely tropical!
Step 2: Lay the palm fronds along the length of the table as the centrepiece base. I used very young fronds as they are thin and pliable, meaning they were easily weighted down and didn't twist the wrong way. Place your tropical fruit at intervals along the length of the fronds. Step 3: Add some tropical flowers or more palm fronds (something with a bit of colour works well) into two or three vases along the length of the centrepiece. Step 4: Set each place setting with crockery and cutlery of your choice. A colour that ties in with one of your centrepiece colours would work beautifully. A natural fibre (like sisal) placemat would work well here too. Step 5: Finish with tropical style napkins, a tropical flower or leaf on each plate and a yummy cocktail on the side! Relax and enjoy the laidback island vibes! Another favourite - absolutely love this Moroccan inspired deck/verandah design I created for a gorgeous Toowoomba based client. She had amazing memories of her travels to Morocco and wanted to replicate the feeling of wonder and of course, some of the designs and elements she saw there. This colour palette is just gorgeous don't you think? Brief: To create a warm, inviting, Moroccan verandah vibe. Pain Points: Feeling the existing space lacked personality and interest. Solution: We turned the beautiful covered verandah on this old Queenslander into a Moroccan oasis with these gorgeous prints as our guidance. We provide a choice of paint colours for a feature wall behind the detailed door print and echoed the tones and exotic feel in the smoked glass pendant, leather pouf, side tables and cane daybed. This verandah is now anything but boring and ensures the perfect spot for company over a warm cup of Chai Tea. What a fun bedroom design this was. Some of my favourite rooms to style are kids bedrooms (& I think I'm a bit of an expert having three of them to satisfy)! You can have so much fun with bright colour palettes, prints and accessories and they usually have a very sure idea of what they do and don't like which makes my job much easier. Brief: Ocean inspired, calming room for a beachside living seven year old. Pain Points: A first time solo bedroom for this little girl, the parents wanted a room to make her feel calm yet excited about having her own space. She was also upgrading to a double bed which was a big step that needed to be celebrated. Solution: We chose this gorgeous print by MIlly & Mae Design as the focal point of the bedroom. We suggested a calming, oceanic, pastel green for the wall colour and the beautiful bedhead (which reminded us of a whale's mouth underside) to ensure her new bed felt like a princess's sleeping place. Pastels and colour pops were added throughout to continue the fun, youthful feeling of this room. One of my favourite 'Style Solutions' was this tribal dining room created for a stylish, modern apartment in Brisbane City. The styling was centred around this beautiful print of a tribal boy by Giovanna Photography. Natural materials and tones with touches of black tied in throughout made this one welcoming, dramatic and jaw dropping dining experience! |
